WHAT'S BITING RIGHT
FEBRUARY 2019: As I update this in late February, the
fishing is shifting from deep water mid-winter techniques to early spring
pre-spawn action. If you would like to put some large slab crappie in the
boat, it's going to be hard to find a better time than now through April.
While bass fishing is still good, and the striper fishing is just around the
corner, the big spawning crappie are taking center stage right now. We're
catching some great fish right now up to two pounds, but when the rain slows down
and the temperatures stabilize...It's going to be amazing! Come join the fun!
JUNE, JULY, AND AUGUST 2018: There's
no doubt about it. Summer has arrived! But don't let the heat
make you think there isn't some great fishing to be enjoyed. When
the mercury climbs into the 90's or higher, it's a sure signal that
fish will be feeding early in the day and also at night. Let's go
catch a bunch of fish, and then look for some shade!
MARCH, APRIL, AND MAY 2018: This
is the time of year we've all been waiting for! Spring came
late with cold temps, high winds, and heavy rains to complicate the
usually consistent and dependable fishing, but we still caught
beautiful fish in between fronts, and sometimes right in the middle of
them! Now we've FINALLY turned the corner, and the weather is
perfect with everything biting great! This is an awesome time to
plan your trip before the heat of summer arrives. Whether you
want to head out for a cooler full of delicious crappie or tangle with
a big fish of a lifetime, this is your opportunity!
NOVEMBER AND DECEMBER 2017: The
late fall/ early winter fishing can be fast and furious, in spite of
some cold mornings! This is the time of year when the gamefish
bunch up in big schools to feed on even larger baitfish schools.
Live bait and lures will produce both amazing numbers as well as some
truly big fish. This is the perfect time to come down and catch a
multi-species mixed bag! Make plans for a fast paced fishing trip and a
fish fry afterwards this
SEPTEMBER AND OCTOBER 2017: The
fall bite is here, and the cooler temperatures have the fish ready to
feed! The summertime heat is past, and both panfish and trophy fish are
out there in great numbers waiting to be caught.
JULY AND AUGUST 2017: Summertime heat is here with a vengeance,
but surprisingly, the fish haven't seemed to mind! By getting out
early, or fishing late or at night, we have made outstanding catches of
crappie, with totals of 100 fish or more being boated...So much for the
summer slump! And the summer heat makes locating those big
stripers easier, as well. Striped bass love cool, oxygen rich
water, and this is usually found in the tailraces below dams or deep in
100+ ft water on the main lakes. In other words, don't let the
heat stop you from enjoying a great day on the water. I
personally like getting out early, catching a bunch of fish, and headed
in to air-conditioning by the time the mid-day heat arrives! If
you don't like getting up early, let's go night fishing instead!
Here are some great catches made this summer.
THROUGH MAY 2017: The month of March and early April was
dedicated to big slab crappie and resulted in full coolers and great
fish fries. And while they are still biting, (and I'm still glad
to take out anyone for panfish fun!) for many of us our thoughts turn
to catching big fish. Now is a great time and will be until the
heat of summer arrives. Big largemouth and spotted bass, hard
pulling hybrid and striped bass, along with hefty catfish are now out
there in great numbers, and these large fish can make memories for a
lifetime. The fish below were caught in mid-April, so we are just
getting started! Come join the fun!
